Elizabeth Sleeman married Samuel Abbott on 30 November 1807 at Tetcott, Devon. They appear to have children Grace & Samuel chr. 1808 Clawton, Dev, Oliver Sleeman chr 1810 Clawton, James chr 1812 Clawton & RICHARD chr. 14th May 1815 Clawton.
Does anyone have any information on RICHARD. I am trying to find if I have Sleeman ancestry.

Interesting to see. Major General Sleeman was, I guess, my Ggg Grandfather.
I had dinner with the Indian Ambassador here last year. He knew Sleemanabad and informed me that he is still fondly remembered there and that if you care to visit the police station you can still see his portrait!
I hope to give it a try next year god willing!

A few names and notes which might tie up with some researches in the Sleeman archives; We would like to hear from anyone with further information on any of the following as our researches are only recent. These are the facts as we know them so far;

1) Mary Anne SLEEMAN married Henry Humphries.

2) On 19th November 1838 they had a daughter who was
named Sarah Elizabeth Humphries. She was born at
'Rosemundy' St Agnes Cornwall. This appears to
have been a 'Sleeman' residence. A Queen Anne
house of ample proportions which is now a Hotel.

3) In 1857 Sarah Elizabeth gave birth to an
illegitimate son at a boarding house in Oriental
Place Brighton Sussex.

4) This son was named John Laing Humphries.

5) The birth was registered by one 'John Laing'.

Can anyone enlarge on any of this ? What was John Laing's connection with Sleemans / Humphries ?
We are going to Cornwall next week and will pursue our enquiries there. Rosemundy is now a Hotel, but Sleemans had other connections in Cornwall. In 1881 Census Henry and Mary are living in Clifton Bristol with four grandchildren named Gane. Did Sarah or another daughter marry a Mr Gane ? Have found no record of Sarah's marriage or of any 'Mr Gane's' marriage at the appropriate date. No later trace Sarah Elizabeth so far in UK records. Did they go abroad as there seems to be no later trace of these / their children either ? (Census / BMDs etc) However, John Laing Humphries stayed in the Brighton area where his education was paid for. Is this a skeleton in someone's cupboard ? When we have the time will go through your messages too.

I'v heard the story about my great grandparents being Mormons who were forced to go to Australia. They ended up in Yass, New South Wales running a sheep station, (Which was about all you could do in Australia in those days). True story or just old folks talk?

My father was Thomas Walter Sleeman born in Grimsby Linconshire in 1907. His father Michael Sleeman(Jnr)also born in Grimsby, married Eliza Jane Hooton in 1903. I have discovered that his father was also Michael Sleeman(Snr) and that he married Jane Tilford from Scarborough Yorkshire in 1873. They were married in Grimsby and the marriage certificate states that his father's name was John Sleeman. Local archives state that Michael Sleeman(Snr)was drowned at sea in 1878 aged 25 years. I have been unable to discover where or when Michael Sleeman(Snr) was born. I am therefore looking for a John Sleeman born approximately 1828 who had a son Michael who drowned at sea in 1878.

An Alfred Sleeman also lived in Grimsby during the 1870s. He was married to Fanny (also born in Scarborough) and had children Ann and Alfred but I have been unable to confirm whether or not they were related to Michael Sleeman(Snr).

Can anyone help?

My paternal great grandfather William Sleeman came from Cornwall, England, born 4-30-1851. His son, Wesley Herbert Sleeman, came from Vale Summit, Md. born 12/13/1885. I understand he was one of seven (7) boys. Wesley Herbert was my paternal grandfather. He had a son (my father) Charles Herbert Sleeman born 9/15/13 from Hoffman, Md. Charles Herbert had two children - his son James D. Sleeman born 8/3/41 from Annapolis, Md and a daughter (me) born 9/22/4X from Chevy Chase, Md.

Hello, If I have figured it out correctly Sir William Henry Sleeman is my gg grandfather on my mothers side. William Henry, and his wife Lady Amelia Blondire had a daughter called Henrietta. She married a William Alexander Ross, his daughter, Helen, married my grandfather, Dr Richard Rice. Their daughter was my mother, so as I said I think William Henry is my gg grandfather.

i have loads of info i can share on sleemans in scotland i know there is five books since the 1800s that have been wrote with every sleeman in the worlds name in itthese books a re thicker than the oxford divtonary i can tell you that one one of them has got my name in it and i was born in 1987 and i know that they have just brought another one ou to put more sleemans names in it and next to the name the put the sleema emblem/sheild with your date of birth and next to your name is your mothers name and your fathers etc i know you can buy copys but the y are extremely difficult to get a hold of its like trying to get blood out of a stone
